Headless CMS decisions that age well
Every team we work with eventually outgrows their first CMS. The question isn't whether your CMS will need to be replaced — it's whether the replacement will be controlled or forced.
What we look for: a content model that mirrors the way your editors think, an API surface that doesn't lock you to a frontend, a migration path off, and pricing that scales with what you publish, not with how many teams touch it.
We avoid CMSes that ship their own renderers. They look great until you need to do something the renderer can't. We prefer CMSes that hand you structured content and get out of the way.
Top picks for 2026: Sanity for studio-grade content modelling. Payload when you need to own the backend. Contentful for enterprise governance. Storyblok if visual editing is non-negotiable for the team.
